A new study finds that the Paleo diet may help you lose weight, but the health benefits of it are limited
A new review by the Institute of Medicine has found that the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, a set of nutritional recommendations for Americans in the U.S. and around the world, are not providing sufficient information on the nutritional value of a diet that is traditionally considered healthy for Americans.
The study, by researchers at the University of Illinois and the University at Buffalo, looked at data from more than 6 million people in the United States and around Canada.
The authors, including Dr. Jeffrey W. Miller, who headed up the review, say that they were surprised to find that the guidelines’ recommendations on fat, cholesterol and other nutrient density were not sufficient to help Americans lose weight.
While some people do lose weight in this diet, many people don’t, the authors write in the review.
The researchers also note that many of the health experts who support the guidelines say that it is important for people to be able to eat a balanced diet.
“Although there are some important differences between the guidelines and the current dietary recommendations, we still recommend that people consume a high-quality diet that includes adequate fat and a low-fat, high-cholesterol diet,” the authors say.
The review also found that there is not enough information on how much weight-loss benefits a low fat, high fat, and low cholesterol diet can provide.
